Marisa Vallbona, Founder / President

Marisa Vallbona, APR, Fellow PRSA, knew she was made for PR when she was 12 and fried an egg on the sidewalk with her sister on a super hot Texas day. The perfect weather story, it made the TV news and that’s all it took for her to get hooked and her career was born. Since then, she’s gotten local, regional and national media exposure for just about everything. If it’s newsworthy, she can get it in the news. 

A seasoned business strategist, Marisa has worked with top businesses and entrepreneurs on business strategy, crisis communications, reputation management, publicity, public speaker training, strategic communications, community relations, new product launches, and special events. Marisa has won four Silver Anvil awards (the Oscars of the PR industry) from the Public Relations Society of America and a Silver Anvil Best of Show. She was recently awarded a Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award for Exemplary Leadership, San Diego Business Journal named her “Women Who Mean Business” in PR and she’s won countless other awards. She was featured as the cover story in Inc Magazine and as a chapter in the book Alpha Dogs: How Your Small Business Can Become A Leader of The Pack.

She is the co-founder of PRConsultants Group, a national network of PR firms with offices in every major U.S. market and Puerto Rico. Marisa also has been inducted into the PRSA College of Fellows (a prestigious distinction awarded to a very small percentage of PR practitioners). She served on the national board of directors of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) five years, including as national secretary. She also served on the board of directors of SDX (formerly the San Diego Ad Club).

Marisa is fluent in Spanish and holds citizenships in the U.S., Costa Rica and Spain. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, snow skiing and surfing.

Miguel Covarrubias, Vice President

Miguel Covarrubias is a seasoned public relations professional with experience increasing brand awareness and securing millions of dollars of news coverage for the firm’s clients annually. Equipped with a broad range of experience in public relations, journalism and creative writing, Miguel lives for new challenges and adventures in the industry. 

A San Diego native, Miguel graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with bachelor’s degrees in writing and philosophy and theology. In addition to managing client relations, Miguel is fluent in Spanish and translates news releases, writes in Spanish and works with the Spanish-language news media among his many other responsibilities at the firm. He has managed PR in numerous industries, including real estate, sports, associations, music education, nonprofits and healthcare. His deep passion for public relations translates into his impeccable client service and ability to help the firm’s clients achieve their goals. 

Miguel’s hobbies include spending time with friends, traveling and setting goals for how many books he can read in a year.

Tanner Vanover, Director Of Digital Media

Tanner Vannover serves as CIM Inc PR's Director of Digital Media working out of the firm's Houston office. Over the past several years, he has immersed himself in all types of marketing, including B2B, account-based marketing, SEO, web design, social media, inbound and outbound. Adept at international marketing, Tanner has worked on projects in the United States, Europe, Central America and Mexico, always with an eye toward growing the client's bottom line. He has won two national awards for his work and no doubt has many more to come.

He enjoys traveling to different countries, taking with him the cultural influences that can be seen in his portfolio. He previously worked as a marketing executive for a marketing firm in Austin, Texas, as well as a social media marketing coordinator with Muy-Ono Belize Resort and Hotel, a leasing and marketing Agent with Aspen Heights, and as chief marketing officer for Belle Vie beauty products.

He is from the swamp lands of Louisiana and Texas and although his passion is marketing and design, his deep fried love is for Cajun food.
